Spiritual Preparedness

Hearing God's Voice

Hearing God’s voice is very important to prepare for Jesus’s second coming.

You need to hear the counsel from the Holy Spirit and discern matters, especially the false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders to mislead God’s people (Matthew 24:24).

As discussed in another page the reason for preparing for the end of the age, you will need to have the wedding gourmet and oil in order to enter Jesus’s wedding feast. Hearing God’s voice is one of the keys for you to know God and be prepared for these.

God loves to talk to you!

Throughout the whole Bible, there is a common theme: God desires mankind to listen to His voice.

Exodus 15:26 (NASB1995)
And He said, “If you will give earnest heed to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in His sight, and give ear to His commandments, and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have put on the Egyptians; for I, the Lord, am your healer.”

Exodus 19:5-6 (NASB1995)
5 Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be My own possession among all the peoples, for all the earth is Mine; 6 and you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel.”

Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (NASB1995)
19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, 20 by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”

Psalm 95:7 (NASB1995)
For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture and the sheep of His hand. Today, if you would hear His voice,

John 10:27 (NASB1995)
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;

Some say those scriptures about hearing and obeying God’s voice in the Old Testament is no longer relevant today as that speaks of obeying the Law. This is not true.

When God said through Moses that the people shall listen and obey to His voice in Exodus 15:26 and Exodus 19:5-6, these were the times BEFORE the Ten commandments and the Law was given at the Mount Sinai.

It was the Israelites who REFUSED to talk to God directly later at Mount Sinai.

Exodus 20:19 (NASB1995)
Then they said to Moses, “Speak to us yourself and we will listen; but let not God speak to us, or we will die.”

And so, God spoke through Moses and sent all the prophets to guide people to live in truth.

You are chosen

David described the Lord is our Shepherd (Psalm 23:1) and we are His sheep (Psalm 95:7).

Jesus said He is the good Shepherd (John 10:11) and His sheep hear His voice (John 10:27).

In the natural, sheep can recognize the shepherd’s voice and only respond to their own shepherd. They do not respond to any other voices.

Notice in the video, the sheep don’t even bother to other voices!

We need to ask ourselves: what voices are we listening and responding to each day?

As Jesus is our Shepherd, are we only listening and obeying to His voice?

Being a believer and follower of Jesus Christ, hearing His voice should be natural.

Jesus restores our identity and we can become a royal priest and holy nation for God’s own possession. This is the fulfilment of what God said to Moses in Exodus.

1 Peter 2:9 (NASB1995)
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light

If we obey God’s voice and keep His covenant, we shall be God’s own possession, a kingly priest and a holy nation.

You ARE chosen to hear God’s voice. You CAN hear God’s voice.

God still speaks today

Some say God no longer speak today after the completion of the Bible. This is absolutely not true! God still speaks today!

Jesus is the true, living God. He has given us who believes in Him the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of the living God. Our body become the temple of the living God. (Matthew 16:16, Romans 9:26, 2 Corinthians 3:3, 2 Corinthians 6:16, 1 Thessalonians 1:9)

Since He is still living, He definitely speaks!

He is not like the idols made by man that cannot speak! (Psalm 115:4-6)

As eternal life is to know the Father and the son Jesus (John 17:3), He of course speaks to communicate with us!

We also need the Holy Spirit to teach us about all things!

1 John 2:27-28 (NASB1995)
27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

We need to consult the Lord for small and big matters in life! God cares whether we involve Him to participate in our lives. In the Old Testament, He even recorded King Asa that he did not seek the Lord when he was sick, but only the doctors.

2 Chronicles 16:12 (NASB1995)
In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa became diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians.

You are a king

Hearing God’s voice is not only for ourselves, but for the nations.

You are chosen to be a king priest (1 Peter 2:9). You are the mediator between God and the nations.

As Jesus is the King of kings (Revelation 19:16), you are called to be one of the kings that submit to the one, true King.

You have been given the full armour of God for battle (Ephesians 6:10). You are called to be a God’s General.

We do not wait passively for God to bring down His Kingdom. You are called to partner with Him to let His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.

You have an important part to play in making the enemy to be a footstool for His feet.

Hebrews 10:13 (NASB1995)
waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet.

Hearing God’s voice is to practice submission and kingship to Jesus.

When Jesus returns and begins the millennial reign, those who did not take the mark of the beast, not worshipped the beast or his image, and those who were martyred, are going to reign with Him.

Revelation 20:4 (NASB1995)
Then I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was given to them. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Now is the time to learn and practice! If not now, when?

How God speaks

The Bible is the Word of God. God can speak through the Bible. What He speaks to you must be aligned with what is written in the Bible – His truth and His character.

Sometimes, you might find a Bible verse suddenly popped up in your mind. This is also the way God speaks. He is repeating what was said in the Bible to you.

Getting familiar with the Bible is very essential so you can discern whether what you hear is from the Lord or other stuff.

The sound of God does not necessarily mean audio sound heard by the physical ears, it can be the still small voice in your heart.

God can also use His creation, the nature, to speak to you. He can deposit an impression in your mind and give you dreams and vision.

God is very creative and have a great sense of humour! Have fun learning to hear His voice!

Activation

It is such a privilege that we can talk directly to the God of the universe and have personal relationship with Him!

What an honour to have God as our personal counsellor and consultant for life!

You are chosen for higher purpose, and you are called to be one of His king!

Do you want to hear God? Let’s say this prayer to activate this gift!

Our Father in Heaven,

Thank you for giving me the gift of hearing Your voice. In the name of Jesus, I now activate and receive the hearing ability within me, so I can hear Your voice from now on.

I want to walk and live by Your Spirit. Please guide me to Your truth by Your voice.

In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Beginner’s Exercise

Apart from reading the Word (Bible), you can try asking Father God, ‘How much do You love me?’.

Wait quietly for around 5 minutes. In these few minutes, do nothing. You don’t need background music, no Bible, no prayer. Just be still and wait on God. Pay attention to any impressions and thoughts that fly into your head, also visions, pictures, lyrics, Bible scriptures, etc. If you are not sure if what you received is from the Father, you can ask Him to clarify. If you don’t understand what He means, you can start a conversation and ask Him.

It is highly encouraged to journal and record all that you have received and talked.

‘How much do You love me?’ is the most fundamental question for us to exercise our hearing muscle. There are two reasons of using this question. First, you can quickly know if what you receive aligns with the truth and from God. Second, this question allows God to give you a personal answer that deepens your relationship with Him. The love of God becomes vivid to your heart and no longer just the knowledge in your head.

Repentance

Repentance is key to prepare us for the wedding feast of Jesus at His second coming.

Unrepented iniquities appear as spots and dirt on our garments (Revelation 3:3-4).

We need to live a repentance, spiritually awaken lifestyle so that we can be clothed in clean garments to enter the marriage supper (Revelation 19:8).

In the Bible, to ‘repent’ is:

  • to think differently (Strong’s 3340. metanoeó, occurs 34 times).

  • to turn back, return (Strong’s 7725. shub, occurs 1,056 times).

  • to be sorry, sorrow, grief, compassion (Strong’s 5162. nacham, occurs 108 times).

‘Repentance’ means the change of mind, compunction for guilt, reversing a decision (Strong’s 3341. metanoia, occurs 22 times).

There was one time in Isaiah 30:15 that the word ‘repentance’ means return (Strong’s 7729. shubah). The Lexicon dictionary stated Shûbâh ‘encapsulates the spiritual act of “returning,” a decisive withdrawal from self-reliance that re-orients the heart toward Yahweh’.

Biblical repentance is not a one-off prayer, but a decision from godly sorrow, and progressive effort to think differently, so as to turn back to the Lord.

Now before Jesus’s return is the time for us to get our heart, mind and lifestyle right with God.

Let’s become the doers of the Word.

We need to read the Word of God to renew our mind.

Romans 12:2 (NASB1995)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

When we read the Word, we will be transformed inside out. God’s Word is also like soap that makes us clean.

Ezekiel 36:25-26 (NASB1995)
25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Malachi 3:2 (NASB1995)
“But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap.

God has sent us the Helper, Holy Spirit, to help us walk in God’s way. We don’t need to perform and rely on ourselves.

Let us to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit. Let us not quench His reminders.

Ezekiel 36:27 (NASB1995)
I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.

Galatians 5:25 (NASB1995)
If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

John 16:13 (NASB1995)
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

1 Thessalonians 5:19 (NASB1995)
Do not quench the Spirit;

Get Out From Religion

Jesus does not want those who do works for Him. He wants someone that knows Him – have an intimate relationship with Him.

Matthew 7:22-23 (NASB1995)
22 Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.

We need to repent from dead works. Repentance from dead works is an elementary foundation as a believer:

Hebrews 6:1 (NASB1995)
Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God

We no longer need to work out our salvation by self-thought good intention or deeds. Anything good practises without the involvement of God becomes religion. All these deeds and rituals are ‘dead’ that bring no spiritual life as God is not in them. And this is self-righteousness.

Even as a believer, if we live by dead works, we are no different than non-believers,

We must repent from any ignorance and foolishness of the soul. This repentance actually set us free from religion. We are invited to partner with God for our lives.

We are to actively allow the Lord to engage and involve in our lives. We are to live by God’s intentions, not good intentions.

God has sent us His Helper the Holy Spirit to do this. We don’t need to perform and rely on ourselves. Simply follow the lead of the Holy Spirit to live by the truth.

Ephesians 4:17-18 (AMP)
17 So this I say, and solemnly affirm together with the Lord [as in His presence], that you must no longer live as the [unbelieving] Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds [and in the foolishness and emptiness of their souls], 18 for their [moral] understanding is darkened and their reasoning is clouded; [they are] alienated and self-banished from the life of God [with no share in it; this is] because of the [willful] ignorance and spiritual blindness that is [deep-seated] within them, because of the hardness and insensitivity of their heart.

Hebrews 9:14 (NASB1995)
how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

Get Out From Babylon

Apart from repentance from dead works, we need to get out from spiritual Babylon.

Historically, Babylon was the centre of idolatry and sun worship. The Babylonians were known for their polytheistic beliefs, worshipping a large pantheon of gods and goddesses. Babylon is also the centre of sexual abominations.

We need to repent from the practises of spiritual Babylon which includes:

  • Idolatry

  • Sexual abominations

  • Child and human sacrifices

  • Witchcraft

  • Divination

  • Sorcery

  • Spell casting

  • Calling up the dead

  • Consulting or being the medium or spiritist

Scripture also told us about their trades – including slaves (include sex slave in our modern day today) and human trafficking.

Revelation 18:12-13 (NASB1995)
12 cargoes of gold and silver and precious stones and pearls and fine linen and purple and silk and scarlet, and every kind of citron wood and every article of ivory and every article made from very costly wood and bronze and iron and marble, 13 and cinnamon and spice and incense and perfume and frankincense and wine and olive oil and fine flour and wheat and cattle and sheep, and cargoes of horses and chariots and slaves and human lives.

Although the physical Babylon nation no longer exist, spiritual Babylon still exist, and its inheritance has been appearing in different forms in our lives than ancient times.

Scripture said the Mystery Babylon is greatly penetrated in our lives even until the judgement day, including music, art, food, business and medicine:

Revelation 18:22-23 (NASB1995)
22 And the sound of harpists and musicians and flute-players and trumpeters [music] will not be heard in you any longer; and no craftsman of any craft [art] will be found in you any longer; and the sound of a mill [food] will not be heard in you any longer; 23 and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your merchants [business] were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery [Strong’s 5331. Pharmakeia: the use of drugs and medicine].

It’s time for us to take some time with the Holy Spirit to review our lives, and see if we need to cut off and turn away from anything, including the music and entertainment we enjoy, the food we love, the way doing business, the trust and use of vaccines and drugs.

It’s time to CLING to the Lord!

Deuteronomy 10:20 (NASB1995)
You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.

Deuteronomy 13:4 (NASB1995)
You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him.

Joshua 23:8 (NASB1995)
But you are to cling to the Lord your God, as you have done to this day.

Psalm 63:8 (NASB1995)
My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.
