Day Of Trumpet
(Yom Teruah)
The Day of Trumpet (some called it as the Feast of Trumpet although it is not a feast) is YOM TERUAH in Hebrew.
The word TERUAH (Strong’s 8643) means the sound of a battle-cry, of an alarm with clangor of trumpets (SHOFAR), and the great joyful shout of worship. It is a different word than SHOFAR (Strong’s 7782. Shophar) which is an instrument made from a curved horn.
The Day of Jesus's Return
The day of trumpet and teruah is referred to the great day of the Lord.
Joshua 6:20 (NASB1995)
So the people shouted, and priests blew the trumpets; and when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great shout [Teruah] and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city.
Psalm 47:5-6 (NASB1995)
God has ascended with a shout [Teruah], The Lord, with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises; Sing praises to our King, sing praises.
Since YOM TERUAH is an appointed time to rehearse, what are we preparing for?
Zephaniah 1:14-16 (NASB1995)
Near is the great day of the Lord, near and coming very quickly;
Listen, the day of the Lord!
In it the warrior cries out bitterly.
A day of wrath is that day,
a day of trouble and distress,
a day of destruction and desolation,
a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and thick darkness,
a day of trumpet and battle cry [Teruah] against the fortified cities and the high corner towers.
The day of the Lord was mentioned many times in the Bible, both the Old Testament and the New Testament. It is clear that the day of the Lord has not yet been fulfilled.
The day of the Lord is the day of Jesus Christ, i.e. His second coming / His return.
Philippians 1:6 (NASB1995)
For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Before the day of Jesus’s return, the sun will be darkened and the moon turned into blood as sign. This is why people has been alerted to the total lunar eclipse, which is often called Blood Moon or Red Moon, and the total solar eclipse, and think they are a sign of repentance before it’s too late.
Joel 2:31-32 (NASB1995)
The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. “And it will come about that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be delivered; For on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as the Lord has said, even among the survivors whom the Lord calls.
Acts 2:20-21 (NASB1995)
The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord shall come. ‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
Revelation 6:12-13 (NASB1995)
I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind.
The phenomenon at the sixth seal will be the final cry for repentance before the day of the Jesus’s second coming.
These signs are like rehearsals to the real thing in the end at the coming of the Lord.
Matthew 24:29-30 (NASB1995)
“But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
Mark 13:24-26 (NASB1995)
“But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from heaven, and the powers that are in the heavens will be shaken. 26 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.

The Glorious Transformation
The day of Jesus’s second coming will happen at the last trumpet as mentioned in the Book of Revelation. On this day, the glory of the Lord will be revealed as the resurrection of the dead in Christ and the transformation of physical bodies happens.
Just before the sounding of the last trumpet, the mystery of God will be finished.
Revelation 10:7 (NASB1995)
but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as He preached to His servants the prophets.
The word “finished” in original Greek is τελέω (Strong’s 5055. teleó) which means to end, complete, accomplish or fulfil.
What is the “mystery of God” that will be ended?
The mystery of God is Christ in us the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:27 (NASB1995)
to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
The ending of “mystery of God” implies the ending of harvest of salvation, in which believers receive the promise of Holy Spirit – Christ in us.
This hope of glory will be fulfilled at the last trumpet. Now this glory is yet to be revealed.
Romans 8:18 (NASB1995)
For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
This glory refers to the mystery of resurrection when the dead will arise, and mortal will be put on immortality.
1 Corinthians 15:51-54 (NASB1995)
51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory.
It will not just be a resurrection but transformation of perishable physical bodies to imperishable spiritual bodies.
1 Corinthians 15:42-44 (NASB1995)
42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
The spiritual bodies will be like glowing lights, as described by Daniel.
Daniel 12:2-3 (NASB1995)
2 Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake, these to everlasting life, but the others to disgrace and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who have insight will shine brightly like the brightness of the expanse of heaven, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.
Not all believers will shine with the same light though; some will shine brightly and some like stars. There will be rankings.
Each of us the believers will receive different rewards according to what we have done in our lives. By the grace of God, we can all be saved. But the reward that each of us going to receive will be different!
Let’s press on towards the goal for the prize!
Revelation 22:12 (NASB1995)
Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.
1 Corinthians 3:8 (NASB1995)
Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward according to his own labor.
Philippians 3:14 (NASB1995)
I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Matthew 24:31 (NASB1995)
And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NASB1995)
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Not only the dead in Christ being risen and our bodies being transformed into glory, we will also be caught up in the air to meet the Lord.
Many people called the day of Jesus’s return as the “day of rapture” because of how the Bible describes the motion of “caught up in the air”.
Some people advocate the “rapture” will not be the same day as the Lord returns. The “rapture” would happen before the tribulation, so believers won’t need to endure the difficult times. This is false teaching because Jesus said in Matthew 24 that we would be gathered when He comes AFTER the tribulation.
The day of Jesus’s return and the glorious transformation of those in Christ will happen at the same time.
This is another fulfilment of the nature of TERUAH: great joyful shout of worship as the King returns and glory be revealed!
Matthew 24:29-31 (NASB1995)
29 “But immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory. 31 And He will send forth His angels with a great trumpet and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
Day of Redemption
Another aspect of Jesus’s sacrifice was done such that there could be redemption.
Ephesians 4:30 (NASB1995)
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
As we discussed on this day our bodies will become imperishable and put on immortality, this points to the completion of redemption when death is finally, literally swallowed up in victory.
1 Corinthians 15:54-57 (NASB1995)
54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
The ”day of redemption” also refers to a span of time, not just a single day, as Isaiah wrote the “year of redemption”.
Isaiah 34:8 (NASB1995)
For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
Isaiah 63:4 (NASB1995)
For the day of vengeance was in My heart, and My year of redemption has come.
Just as Jesus read the scroll of Isiah 61 and read “the favourable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-21).
Now we are living in the “year of redemption”, “year of recompense” and the “favourable year of the Lord”.
There will come to an end in this age when the redemption is completed and the Lord returns.
This suggests the completion of the day of redemption is the second coming of Jesus Christ.
Day of Vengeance
When we read Isaiah 34 and 63 again, notice the Word tells there would also be a day of vengeance.
Isaiah 34:8 (NASB1995)
For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion.
Isaiah 63:4 (NASB1995)
For the day of vengeance was in My heart, and My year of redemption has come.
Now we are still in the day of the favourable year of the Lord when the lovingkindness of the Lord is still here and salvation is available.
The day of vengeance is yet to be fulfilled.
Vengeance means the justice executed in response to violated righteousness.
In order words, this will be the time when God repays the evil and wicked.
God has His own period of time to punish the evil and wicked. We need not do evil to repay evil.
Deuteronomy 32:35 (NASB1995)
‘Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, in due time their foot will slip;
For the day of their calamity is near, and the impending things are hastening upon them.’
After the day of the Lord, salvation will not be available as we do today, as the day of vengeance begins.
This is confirmed by the description in Revelation 15 that when the 7 angels holding the 7 plagues (7 bowls of God’s wrath) go forth to action, no one will be able to enter the temple of God.
Revelation 15:7-8 (NASB1995)
7 Then one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever. 8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power; and no one was able to enter the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.
God’s vengeance will be completed on the Day of Atonement and we will cover more in another page.
Since it will be a time of punishment on the evil and wicked, the day of the Lord is also referred as the day of wrath that is filled with terror and darkness.
Zephaniah 1:15 (NASB1995)
A day of wrath is that day,
A day of trouble and distress,
A day of destruction and desolation,
A day of darkness and gloom,
A day of clouds and thick darkness,
Malachi 4:5 (NASB1995)
Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord.
Amos 5:20 (NASB1995)
Will not the day of the Lord be darkness instead of light, even gloom with no brightness in it?
Joel 2:2 (NASB1995)
A day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness.
As the dawn is spread over the mountains, so there is a great and mighty people;
There has never been anything like it, nor will there be again after it to the years of many generations.
Darkness can also refer to spiritual environment which demonic activities prevail, or the absence of God’s presence (or God’s people) as the light.
This makes sense when all of God’s people will be transformed and “caught up”, the light of the world is no more in this earth.
The day of the Lord also implies the action of destruction, making the land a desolation and exterminating sinners. This is why over and over again in Scriptures, there were warnings that “the day of the Lord is near /coming”.
Isaiah 13:6-9 (NASB1995)
6 Wail, for the day of the Lord is near! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.
7 Therefore all hands will fall limp, and every man’s heart will melt.
8 They will be terrified, pains and anguish will take hold of them;
They will writhe like a woman in labor, they will look at one another in astonishment, their faces aflame.
9 Behold, the day of the Lord is coming, cruel, with fury and burning anger, to make the land a desolation; And He will exterminate its sinners from it.
Joel 1:15 (NASB1995)
Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is near, and it will come as destruction from the Almighty.
Ezekiel 30:3 (NASB1995)
For the day is near, even the day of the Lord is near; It will be a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.
We have to note that many people believe and advocate that "we don’t have to go through the tribulation, and will be directly rescued by rapture".
From Scripture, we can clearly see that we are to stay till the 7th trumpet.
In the Book of Revelation, there was a mention of those who come out of the great tribulation.
Revelation 7:13-14 (NASB1995)
13 Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, “These who are clothed in the white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?” 14 I said to him, “My lord, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Although no one can be 100% sure about the actual events that are going to take place as described in the Book of Revelation, it is better for us to be prepared than not prepared. If we keep thinking “we are going to escape it”, we are living like the foolish who pays no attention to the watch of the hour.
Also, have you ever wondered why God does not bring the final judgement right away but the tribulation? This is because tribulation is the final period of time to awake people for repentance so they can be saved. Our God does not delight in tragedies and afflictions; He desires all to be saved and no one perish (2 Peter 3:9).
The wrath that comes on the day of the Lord, the day of vengeance, is for punishment and judgement.
Wrath and tribulation are two different things for different purposes.
The term "tribulation" (Revelation 7:14, Matthew 24:29, Mark 13:24) in original Greek word is θλῖψις (Strong's 2347. thlipsis), meaning pressure, especially used to describe internal pressure that makes one feel restricted, like having "no choice."
This differs from the "calamity" (Deuteronomy 32:35) used to describe the day of God's wrath and vengeance. The word "calamity" in original Hebrew is אֵיד (Strong's 343. ed), meaning destruction.
Jesus referred to the turmoil before His return as birth pangs (Matthew 24:8, Mark 13:8). Just as childbirth brings new life through internal pressure, so too does the pressure of end-time tribulations bring life, and there will be a great harvest in the end of the age (Revelation 14:14-16).
The day of vengeance will be fulfilled at the second coming of Jesus Christ, a time when it will not be a time for repentance, but a time for God to demonstrate His power and authority.
The day of Jesus’s second coming will be a day of battle which echoes what TERUAH means: battle-cry.
Joel 2:11 (NASB1995)
The Lord utters His voice before His army;
Surely His camp is very great, for strong is he who carries out His word.
The day of the Lord is indeed great and very awesome, and who can endure it?
That Day And Hour No One Knows
Many people use Matthew 24:36 to dismiss the preparation for the end times.
Matthew 24:36 (NASB1995)
But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
It is true that the people in the first century, like the apostles, really didn’t know Jesus’s second coming. But Jesus never said nobody will ever know and He didn’t say no one will know the year.
In fact, “that day and hour no one know” could be a Hebraic idiom that talks about the Day of Trumpets.
The Day of Trumpets is the only day that lands on the first of the month and thus requires careful observation of the moon to declare the official occurrence of that day. Only in the modern times the moon cycle can be calculated down to minutes.
Moreover, Daniel and Paul said actually the wise and those in the light would know the time.
Daniel 12:10 (NASB1995)
Many will be purged, purified and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight [prudent or wise (Strong’s 7919a. sakal)] will understand.
1 Thessalonians 5:4 (NASB1995)
But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief
Only the wicked and those in darkness will not be able to understand and this day will come like a thief. They will be very sad and in shame.
Matthew 24:30 (NASB1995)
30 And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and great glory.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 (NASB1995)
For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10 (NASB1995)
But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.
Revelation 16:15 (NASB1995)
“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”
Those who are asleep will not know and feel the coming like a thief. Not so for those who are awake.
Revelations 3:3 (NASB1995)
So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.
Revelation 16:15 (NASB1995)
“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is the one who stays awake and keeps his clothes, so that he will not walk about naked and men will not see his shame.”
Let us stay awake and keep watching!
Let us be the wise ones who understand! Let us not be the wicked who cannot understand.
Also, Jesus was trying to say “that day and hour no one knows” so to make a point to remind his disciples to stay awake, for His coming will be like the days of Noah.
Because of unbelief, people did not understand until the flood came.
Matthew 24:37-39 (NASB1995)
37 For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.
42 “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. 43 But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 44 For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
Jesus warned it will be like the days of Noah when He returns!
In the days of Noah, people engaged in immoralities that result in mixed genetics with the fallen angels. The war has been in the seed since the beginning (Genesis 3:15).
Since the ancient times, the devil has been working on defiling the body of man, as he knows our body has the capacity to be transformed into the temple of God and put on immortality at the day of the Lord.
Let us not live in unbelief!
Let us keep the guard of our own house – the house is our body. Let no thieves broke into our house. Who are the thieves? The devil, Satan. It could refer to foreign genetics and/or demons.
Scripture also warned us nations would be deceived by the sorcery of Babylon.
Revelation 18:23 (NASB1995)
and the light of a lamp will not shine in you any longer; and the voice of the bridegroom and bride will not be heard in you any longer; for your merchants were the great men of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your sorcery.
The original Greek of “sorcery” is φαρμακεία (Strong’s 5331. Pharmakeia) which means the use of drugs and medicine.
So stay alert, do not give in to take any vaccine, drugs or medicine easily. Inquire and confirm with the Lord before any action. By all means, guard your genetics.
Being wise means:
To have the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 9:10)
To be cautious and turn away from evil which speaks of living a set apart lifestyle (Proverbs 14:16)
To hear the Word of God and act on them (live and walk by the Spirit, hear and obey God’s voice) (Matthew 7:24)
To value and pursue spiritual purity (be a virgin) and spend time and effort to invest in spending time with the Lord (buy and keep the oil) (Matthew 25:1-4)
To let Holy Spirit to teach you all things (1 John 2:27)
To know and remember who God is, His lovingkindness and give thanks to Him (Psalm 107).
Let us be believers that walk and practise His Word!
Let us give thanks to God always and put Him at the centre of our heart and life!
